Hello Karishma. We were thinking of adding wall panels to our bedroom wall last month. We were confused about whether to go for PVC ones. After checking out the disadvantages of PVC wall panels, we decided not to. They are hazardous to the environment and come in only a few options. There are a couple more drawbacks which I am going to share with you below.
PVC Wall Panel Side Effects
Here are the cons of PVC wall panels:
Fragile Structure: Besides other materials like natural wood and steel, PVC panels are more fragile and don’t have a nice load-bearing capacity. Because of this, it is very susceptible to deformation or breakage when pressure from heavy objects is applied.
Looks Cheap: The appearance of PVC panels is like cheap plastic. To negate the cheap look, you'd have to get a more textured and less shiny one. A matte texture will give the panels a good look, but a smooth one will give a cheap one.
Miss Jiya has shared the rest of the side effects of PVC wall panels. You can go through them. I hope this helps you.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) wall panels are popular in a variety of building and interior design projects because of their durability, affordability, and ease of installation. However, just like any other building material there are certain disadvantages of PVC wall panels, which the prospective users should be aware of.
What are the PVC Wall Panel Disadvantages?
- Limited Options:
Although PVC wall panels come in a variety of hues and textures, they might not be as adaptable as other materials like ceramic tiles or real wood from an aesthetic standpoint.
- Susceptible to fading:
When PVC panels are exposed to UV radiation or direct sunshine, they may eventually fade. This may cause the colour of the wall to differ noticeably between areas that receive sunshine and those that do not.
- Not environmentally friendly:
The production process of PVC, a synthetic plastic substance made from petrochemicals, may have adverse effects on the environment. Furthermore, when PVC burns, harmful compounds may be released and it is not biodegradable. For environmentally sensitive consumers, this environmental impact may be a major drawback.
- Vulnerable to scratches:
PVC panels are not as durable against physical harm as some other types of wall coverings. They are readily dented or scratched, particularly in places with a lot of traffic.
- Not fire resistant:
When exposed to fire, PVC, being a combustible material, can release harmful gasses.
These are some of the PVC wall panels disadvantages that should be accounted for, while considering the project requirements.
