While searching for interior designs on social media I came across a design where they had used wood panels on the walls. I liked it so much that I decided to get the same for my house. I got in touch with an interior designer and asked him to get the same for my house. He told me that there are several types of wood paneling and which one would I want to get.
What are the Different Types of Wood Paneling for Walls?
Since I wasn’t aware of the wood panel types, I asked to tell which would be best. He gave me three options, which are
Shiplap
He said that Shiplap panels are long, horizontal boards that overlap each other along the long edges. The lip of the upper board overlaps a part of the lower board. According to him these give dining rooms, bedrooms, etc a rustic & charming look.
Raised Panels
The designer told me that these panels provide a showy look and are often found in expensive older homes. Because they have deep bevels, they can create deep shadows for a highly eye-catching look.
Flat Panels
According to the designer these paneling are completely smooth on the front and has no bevels, grooves, or beads. The visual interruption on these panels are the seam between the boards. These boards can be filled up with meta or wood strips; sometimes, lights are also used between these strips.
Apart from these he also told me about other types of wooden panelling, which are
Coffered Panels
Board and Batten
Beadboard
Wainscoting.
After listening to him, I went with the Flat Panels as that is what I saw on social media. I hope this helps.
