While cleaning my backyard the other day, I found the water pipe leaking. Since I have zero knowledge of plumbing, I called a plumber to get the issue fixed. The plumber inspected the area and told me that the pipe joint was damaged, and because of that, the water was leaking. Following that, he fixed it. While he was working, I asked him about what causes a pipe to leak.

What are the Common Causes of Leaky Pipes?

He told me apart from the issues that I was experiencing, there were quite a lot of other causes as well. Here are a few that he had mentioned.

  1. Broken Seals: He said that whenever pipes are installed, a rubber sealant is placed between the joints to keep them secure and airtight. Over time, this degrades, making them leak water.

  2. Corrosion: As pipes age, corrosion eats them away, thus creating an opening for water to escape through them.

  3. High Water Pressure: This is another reason pipes can start leaking. When water hits pipes from the inside because of high pressure, maybe the pipes can burst.

These are some reasons for pipe leaks. I hope you find this information helpful.
