If the geyser is left on, you might witness serious damage to the appliance. Once in our neighbourhood, a geyser burst after being left on for almost 10 hours. Luckily, no one was hurt. During our geyser installation, the electrician warned us about what happens if geyser is left on for 8 hours and cited several consequences. Let me share a few of them here.

What Happens if You Leave Geyser On?

Since I had heard about the incident in our neighbourhood, I inquired from the electrician about

what happens if geyser is left on for 10 hours. I learned that the

prolonged usage may cause the geyser's heating element to overheat, potentially damaging the appliance. This was the main reason why the appliance burst. 

Other things that can happen are:

• Continuous operation results in unnecessary energy consumption, contributing to higher utility bills.

• Prolonged operation accelerates wear and tear on the geyser's components, shortening its lifespan.

• Constant heating raises the risk of overheating and potential malfunctions, increasing the likelihood of accidents or electrical issues.

• Excessive energy consumption can cause environmental degradation and higher carbon emissions.

• If a geyser is left on for a long time, it may reduce the geyser's efficiency over time, impacting its ability to heat water effectively. 

I hope you can imagine what happens if geyser is left on for 24 hours. But nowadays, geysers come with automatic switch-off options so it’s better to buy them. After a certain period, when the geyser reaches its maximum temperature, it turns off.

However, if the geyser is left on for 5 hours or more, the thermostat may not turn off the heating element. This could cause the water to heat up too much, which could burn or harm you. 

• Leaving a geyser for a long period can also harm the geyser's internal parts, making them ineffective or even useless.

It can cause the one mentioned above if you left your geyser for 12 hours. When not in use, the geyser should be turned off to conserve energy, cut costs, and guard against accidents or damage to the equipment. I hope you have an idea of what happens if geyser is left on for 12 hours.
