The 7/12 extract is taken from the land record, which is kept up to date by the revenue divisions of the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The extract includes details about the land's survey number, owner and cultivator information, type of cultivation, and the crops sown during the previous growing season. It also keeps track of government-issued loans made to landowners, identifying the reason they were given—such as loans or subsidies for buying fertiliser, pesticides, or seeds—and whether they were made to the owner or the cultivator. It is one of the documents that shows who owns the land it represents. The document is referred to as a "Record of Rights" or "Record of Land Rights."
