A load bearing wall is used to hold the weight of the building  surface or ceiling.

Load bearing walls are one of the earliest forms of construction.

What is a load bearing wall in a house?

A thick wall stands from the foundation of the building. These walls are made up of

concrete, block, or brick. If we want to define the load bearing wall we can say

 

a wall that bears a load resting upon it by conducting its weight off to a foundation structure.

There are majorly four types of load bearing wall

  • Solid masonry wall

A load bearing solid masonry wall is the most common type of wall support used for the construction of big buildings. These types of wall are mainly built up with concrete, brick, blocks or stones.

  • Cavity wall

Cavity wall is a wall that consists of two separate walls with a slight gap between them.

  • Pre Panelized Load Bearing Metal Stud Walls

This method is used for building exterior wall cladding. The metal can be stainless steel, copper, aluminum. It supports gravity, seismic and wind loading. 

  • Veneered wall

The specialty of this type of wall is that they are weather resistant. These types of wall oftenly  used where the ground surface area is more and largely used for exterior walls
