What is the Jamb in Window?

Now that you know the meaning of window jamb, you must know that the jamb has three main parts: one on each side, known as the side jamb; one at the top, and one at the bottom, known as the head jamb and bottom Jamb, respectively. 

He said jambs have a locking mechanism in the form of latches that keep the window in place and secure. And by any chance, if any part of the jamb becomes faulty, you can replace that part. This will save a lot of money for you. 

To increase the lifespan of the Jamb of the window, you can clean and maintain it properly. Here are a few steps that will help you in cleaning them. 

• Use a vacuum cleaner to clear out all the accumulated dirt. 

• Make a solution of baking soda and water, pour it into a spray bottle, and spray it around the sides of the window. 

• Leave it there for a few minutes, and then use a toothbrush to scrub the area. 

• You can use a clean cloth or a paper towel to wipe off the area. 

• Apply silicone to the jambs to open and close them smoothly.

Having jamb in window allows the window to have a stronger structure. In a building-grade window, jambs are 2-7/16 to 3 inches thick. In premium grade windows, jamb is 3-1/4 inches. 

Jamb is used to support the latches and hardware that are used to lock a window after closing it. I don't think they are necessary for a window yet manufacturers have been using them for years. Usually, window jambs are painted in the same colour as the trim on the window.
