Hey,

According to the latest news, BESCOM sent a notice to multiple apartment buildings on Sarjapur Road in Bengaluru in the previous month requesting the payment of an additional security deposit ASD electricity bill. In one instance, the notice stated that the calculated MMD (Months Minimum Deposit) was Rs 1,43,690 and that since the existing deposit was Rs 47,120, the difference of Rs 96,570 had to be paid to BESCOM to prevent disconnection.

I have gone through Venkateshwar’s answer, and I completely agree with his idea regarding what ASD in electricity bill means.

However, just to reiterate, I want to point out that the

ASD charges in electricity bill

that BESCOM holds from a customer at any given moment are equal to two months of invoicing.

For instance, if the monthly billing average is approximately Rs 750 and the average bill for two months is Rs 1,500, then the security deposit that a customer is required to submit to BESCOM is Rs 1,500 (7502). The security deposit should be Rs 1,900 (9502) if the monthly billing amount increases to Rs 950 the next year as a result of an increase in unit pricing or an increase in power use.

At this point, BESCOM notifies the customer and requests that he pay the difference, in this case, Rs 400, to make up the difference. Customers can find the ASD amount at the bottom of their electricity bills, and it must be paid to BESCOM.

Why BESCOM ask for ASD every year?

Power consumption will inevitably rise along with the cost of electricity due to the nearly yearly growth in power unit prices and the rise in the number of electrical equipment that consumers use. The Additional Security Deposit is the difference between the security deposit that BESCOM now holds and what is required based on the current billing for consumers.

Every year in March or April, BESCOM conducts an audit, during which time the consumer security deposit amount is determined. Additionally, officials stated that they only requested ASD from customers if the increased cost was larger than Rs 200 for residential customers and Rs 1,000 for commercial customers.

I would like to conclude here as I believe this suffices your query about the ASD electricity bill. I hope this helps:)

I came to know about the ASD full form in electrical after joining the BESCOM office. It is an additional security deposit, which is nothing but an extra charge that can be added to an electricity bill. BESCOM uses it as a precaution to guard against possible late or non-payment by consumer. Read on to learn more about ASD.

What is ASD to be Paid in Electricity Bill?

The purpose of collecting the ASD is to guarantee to the electricity supplier that they will be paid in case the consumer defaults on their electricity bill. Power usage and bill generation are usually used to compute ASD.

In the situation of monthly billing, the amount is determined by averaging the bill amounts for two months, and in the case of bi-monthly billing, by averaging the bill amounts for four months.

I have shared an example to better understand ASD.

If your monthly billing amount is approximately Rs 500 and the average bill amount for two months is Rs 1,000, then you need to deposit Rs 1,000 as a security deposit. Now, if your monthly billing value increases to Rs 700 due to any reason like an increase in unit prices or in power consumption, you have to submit Rs 1,400 as your security deposit.

At this point, you will receive a notice from BESCOM requesting payment of the difference (in this case, Rs 400). This is the ASD amount that you should pay to BESCOM. You can view this charge at the bottom of your electricity bills.

Who should pay ASD amount owner of land or tenant?

The ASD BESCOM full form is Additional Security Deposit in Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited. When I relocated from Pune to Bangalore, I discovered that my bill had significantly increased. I checked my bill, I found that it included an ASD charge. At that time, I learned about it and found that customers who use heavy loads or have a history of payment defaults are required to pay an extra amount called ASD. Let’s learn more about ASD charges below.

What is ASD meaning in electricity bill?

This additional security deposit is being used in order to protect BESCOM from any potential issues brought on by defaulting customers. BESCOM hopes to reduce the risk of non-payment or payment delays by requesting a deposit on time. This is crucial for customers who have heavy loads because their non-payment could cause the business to suffer a large financial loss. The formula to calculate ASD is as follows:

Additional Security Deposit

= Amount to cover the predicted consumption of 45 days - minimum security.

Just like a regular power bill, it can be paid at Bangalore One Center or one of BESCOM's sub-divisional offices. The consumer's ASD can be returned or applied to future bills if they keep up a good payment history. Ajanta has provided more specific information on the ASD fees in BESCOM. You must go through it.

ASD  which stands for Additional Security Deposit, is a term used in electricity bills. It refers to an extra amount of money that the electricity provider may request from customers as a security measure. The purpose of the ASD is to protect the provider from potential financial risks, especially in cases where customers have a history of late payments or unpaid bills. It can also be required from new customers who do not have a credit history. The specific amount of the security deposit and the conditions for its return or usage are determined by the policies and regulations of the electricity provider. Hey,

Thank you for asking such an important question. Let me help you with your query: What is ASD installment in electricity bill? The ASD full form in electricity bill is nothing but Additional Security Deposit. All of BESCOM's customers must provide a security deposit when a new connection is issued. Depending on how much power a customer needs, a set amount is fixed for the initial security deposit.

This sum is often calculated beginning the next year using the average bill amount, which is equal to two months in the case of monthly billing and four months in the case of bimonthly billing.

What is ASD in current bill?

Customers are subject to an ASD to be paid in electricity bills charged by BESCOM and other electrical providers. With these BESCOM ASD charges, BESCOM is shielded from suffering a loss if consumers fail to pay their electricity bills.

You may be wondering why BESCOM is requesting an additional security deposit when you have already paid the security deposit. You should be aware that BESCOM retains a security deposit equal to two months' worth of average bills.

Taking your typical bill of Rs. 1000 into account, the deposit will be Rs. 2000. (1000 x 2).

Your monthly payment now averages Rs. 1200 in cases of unit price increases or increases in electricity rates. Consequently, the deposit would rise to Rs. 2400. (1200 x 2). In this instance, BESCOM will request a difference of Rs. 400 under ASD. You can pay the ASD amount by visiting the BESCOM office or paying your normal electricity bill.

Is ASD refundable?

The ASD is only refunded when a meter is terminated. According to BESCOM representatives, there is very little probability that they will need to issue a refund because most individuals do not turn in their meters or disconnect from the connection.

ASD stands for additional security deposit and before I explain what is ASD in electricity bill, I will tell you what is security deposit in brief.

When a person applies for a new electricity connection, he has to deposit a security amount in a postpaid electric connection. This is because in case he makes dues and leaves his property without paying the outstanding bill, then this security amount would be adjusted in the final bill during the permanent disconnection process.

A security deposit is generally a bill amount of 2 months and is decided by the electricity regulatory commission. The security amount can differ from one type of consumer to another.

What is ASD Amount in Electricity Bill

If the tariff rate increases in any financial year, then the difference in the 2-month bill amount would also increase. Now, in this case, the electricity provider may ask you to deposit an additional security deposit (ASD).

Let’s understand this using an example.

Let’s assume your average electricity bill amount is Rs. 2000 per month, so in this case, your security deposit amount would be Rs. 4000 (2000 x 2).

Now let’s assume there is an increase in the unit price or additional prices in electricity and your average bill amount jumps to Rs. 2400 per month. Now, the security deposit will also increase to Rs. 4800 (2400 x 2). In this case, you will have to pay the difference of Rs. 480 as ADS (Additional Security Deposit).

Now you know what is meant by ASD in electricity bill.

You are required to deposit the ADS within 30 days after receiving the notice sent by your electricity service provider. If you fail to deposit the ADS on time, they can disconnect the connection for a certain period. Your electricity service provider may allow you three instalments to deposit ADS.
