Cissing is often characterized by paint pulling away from the surface, leaving gaps or a patchy appearance. I have mentioned below my findings. 

What is Cissing Paint?

• Oils, grease, or residues on the surface can prevent proper adhesion. Common issues include dust, dirt, or cleaning agents that have left behind a residue.

• Certain surfaces, especially those that are too smooth or have been treated with incompatible finishes, can cause the paint to form beads rather than spread evenly. 

• Using paint that is too thick or applying it in conditions that are too hot or too cold can lead to cissing. Also, using the wrong type of primer or not priming at all can affect paint adhesion.

• Reactions between the paint and the surface or between different layers of paint can cause cissing. For instance, applying a water-based paint over a solvent-based primer without proper curing can lead to this problem.

To prevent cissing, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and properly prepared. Use compatible primers and paints, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application conditions and techniques.

Sometimes, while painting walls or surface defects occur. Bittiness, cissing, and efflorescence are a few of them. Before reading your question I had no idea about cissing paint defect. I went on a deep dive and found the meaning and the reasons. It can be a recurring problem in your house if not treated properly.

When the paint applied to the surface begins to recede and leave craters and bare areas, it is known as cisising. It causes the wall to be marred by dust, grit, and broken paint skin amongst other small particles. The wall is marred by extraneous material like fragments of bristles from the paintbrush as well. 

Why does cissing in paint occur?

According to experts, it occurs when the surface has been contaminated by grease, oil, wax polish, or silicones. It ruins the look and finish of the painted surface. The paint does not adhere to the wall or other surfaces and draws away.

Another reason for its occurrence is using water-thinned paints directly on top of glossy or semi-gloss oil-based coatings. 

A few other reasons for cissing defect in paint are :

• Incomplete chemical composition 

• Creating a mix of paint components

• Low drying temperature 

• Retention of the solvent

You can fix cissing paint defect by reapplying the wall paint or any coating on the surface.

You can use a special protective film coating to stop contamination.
