Recently in our locality, a 2bhk house got demolished and it is being said that a flat will be constructed in that area and will include more plots or buildings within its domain. The house was 67 years old and the poor condition clearly reflected that no one can live there unless a new apartment gets built in that area. A lot of debris got deposited there so I asked my father what would happen to that waste. He said that the construction and demolition waste management rules 2016 will take care of it. I had no clue about these things before so I started to know more about it. If you too are interested about it, let me share some details with you to help you better understand it.

What is construction and demolition waste management?

Construction and demolition waste is formed whenever any construction or demolition takes place be it for road, bridges, flyover, subway, remodeling these structures or etc. The rules are:

  • The waste generators must segregate construction and demolition waste and deposit at collection center or submit it to the authorized processing facilities

  • It must be made sure that no littering or deposition should obstruct traffic or public drains

  • Large generators must submit the waste management plan and get approval from the local authority and then only opt for construction or demolition or remodeling

  • The environment issues are to be checked before doing these activities

  • Large generators are to provide the charges required to collect, transport, process or dispose of the waste as stated by the concerned authorities.

Why is construction and demolition debris recycling considered important?

Recycling old materials  is always beneficial. Recycling waste is a profitable way to form aggregates and reuse valuable materials that would otherwise be disposed of. This is cost saving, environment friendly and also results in lower logistic costs if you get to use the waste located very near to your project.

This information must be enough to help you know about the construction and demolition waste management rules 2016.
