Covered area means the total built area on all floors. However, it is to be remembered that the covered area does not include open spaces like terraces, balconies, open lawns, courtyards and more. It is the actual area under the roof + walls, pillars and balconies.

Carpet area means the area in the flat or apartment which one can cover using a carpet. It includes the thickness of the internal wall but does not include balcony or terrace. It is also known as the net usable area. 

To calculate the covered area, just follow the steps:

• Add wall width to each dimension in floor plan

• Multiply dimensions of each of the rooms

• Multiply dimensions of balcony

• Multiply dimensions of foyer, wardrobe space or any other usable space

• Sum the values and get the covered area of your house/flat/apartment

It is feasible to manually compute the covered area if your blocks are rectangular or if only the walls are 90 degrees. 

The covered area of building cannot be determined manually. You must consult a draughtsman or an architect to calculate this covered area.

You can measure the length and width of each room in feet. Multiply the length by the width of each room and write the total square footage in the relevant place on the home design. A bedroom measuring 12 feet by 20 feet has a total square footage of 240 square feet (12 x 20 240).

If you're creating a high rise structure, you can multiply the covered area of each floor by 900 sqft. For example, if the covered area of both floors is the same, you can multiply 900 sqft of the ground floor by 900 sqft of the first floor to reach 1800 sqft. This will be your house's covered area.
