You can decorate your house as per your choice and recently there is a new trend of laying two different tiles on the walls which is called dodo tiles. Do you know what is a dado? It refers to the area that is just above the base and part of a pedestal and people are opting for covering that area with a different kind of tile than the tiles used on the rest of the wall. Apart from providing unique looks to the walls or rooms, dodo tiles also have several benefits. I have used dodo tiles in several areas of my house so let me give you some more aspects of it.

Where are dado tiles used?

After knowing what is dado tiles, you must know that such tiles are mostly not used to decorate all the rooms. They are mainly provided in the kitchen and bathroom. We have always seen that the splashing water damages the wall mostly in the bathroom so using dado tiles there protects the paint or plaster of the walls during washing and bathing. In the kitchen also, you can use dado tiles to protect the walls or to use them as a border between upper and lower cabinets.

Some Do’s and Don'ts for using Dado tiles

Do’s

  • Make sure that the cross walls are at right angles with one another

  • The wall surface must be rough and dry

  • Once you install the tiles, you cannot do any plumbing or electrical work so do those works beforehand

  • Soak the tiles for about 1 to 2hrs before installing them

Don’ts

  • Avoid using heavy dado tiles or it may have a chance to loosen or fall down due to its weight

  • Do not use too large tiles

  • Wipe out the grouting material as soon as possible

  • Once it is installed, avoid moving it
