When my friend was trying to get admission to an MBBS college under a state quota, the college officials asked him to submit the domicile certificate. He did not know what is domicile certificate, so he asked the officials about it.

They told him that a domicile certificate acts as proof that the individual having the domicile certificate is a resident of that particular union territory or state as mentioned in the certificate.

A woman who does not originally belong to a union territory or state, but is married to a man who is a permanent resident of that particular union territory or state or who is eligible for the union territory or state’s domicile certificate, can also apply for a Domicile Certificate.

You can use the domicile certificate to avail several benefits including a job, education, and other benefits (resident quotas in the govt. service and colleges, and also in jobs where local residents are given a preference).

You can obtain the application from either of the local authorities (Office of Tahsildar/ Revenue Department/Office of District Collector/Sub-Divisional Magistrate or any other authorised authority in the UT/state).

• Application form

• Two passport-size photographs.

• Residence Proof (driving license, ration card, etc.)

• Age proof (school certificate, birth certificate, etc.)

• Identity proof (PAN Card, Aadhaar card, etc.)

• Self-declaration form.

• Photocopies of all documents attested by a govt. official.
