Why Govardhan Puja is CelebratedGovardhan puja holds a very special significance in Hindu mythology. On this day, a curious and young Lord Krishna once asked his father why the residents of Braj worshipped Indra Dev. His father told him that they worship Lord Indra so that he blesses them with rain and showers his grace over them. It did not make sense to Lord Krishna and he convinced the residents of Braj to focus on doing their work without worrying about the result.
This made Indra Dev angry, and he ordered Samavartaka clouds of devastation to destroy Vrindavan with thunderstorms and rain. Residents of Braj went to Lord Krishna for help. He then used his little finger to lift Govardhan Parvat, which helped save the animals and residents from the wrath of nature.
Significance of Govardhan Puja:This puja is done to spread the message of conserving natural resources. The main reason behind worshipping the mountain has always been the protection and conservation of precious and vulnerable natural resources. This is why we celebrate Govardhan puja.
