Green Zone plot meaning
In general, all the lands are termed agricultural lands. If a particular piece of land does not come under a non-agricultural category, it is referred to as agricultural land whether it is used for the purpose of cultivation or not.
When a plot or area is mainly used for agricultural purposes, the Regional Plan places it under the Green Zone.
This is done to promote and safeguard agricultural practices, preserve the plot for recreational activity, etc. However, the Green Zone cannot be entirely used for agriculture. This is because of the following reasons.
The agricultural plot needs to be taken into use for various other agricultural activities like agro-based industries.
A village area requires amenities such as a constructed road for better connectivity, hospitals and schools.
In each village, there are a few places which are allocated for village settlement. The plot of land reserved for such activity is known as Gaothan. With the rising population in the village areas, there is a need for housing spaces. Hence, provisions are made in the MLR Code in the Bombay Village Gram Panchayat Act for the extension of Gaothan when we talk in terms of Maharashtra.
