I remember that a few months back, I went to grandma with this question ‘which direction is ishan kon?’. I had recently shifted to a new house and wanted to make it Vastu compliant. And I knew my grandma could help me.

She told me that Ishan Kon or Ishan angle in Hinduism, the northeast corner or direction is thought to be extremely auspicious and to be of great spiritual significance. "Ishan" is a Sanskrit word that signifies "northeast," while "Kon" means "corner" or "angle."

What is ishan corner in vastu?

The Ishan Kon is thought to be the most revered and divine direction according to Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian discipline of architecture and design. Lord Shiva, the greatest deity of annihilation and transformation, is connected to it. As a result, this region is seen to be the perfect location for shrines honouring Lord Shiva or other deities as well as meditation areas and prayer rooms.

  • The Ishan corner in english, which is dedicated to spiritual practises, is kept free of clutter in many Hindu houses and temples.

  • It is thought that pointing idols, images, or holy symbols in this direction will bless the area and draw good fortune.

  • In addition to its spiritual significance, the Ishan Kon is regarded as the best location for wells and water storage tanks since it is thought to improve the water's quality and cleanliness.

Which side is ishan corner?

My family has designated the northeast corner of our house as a prayer room, and it is decorated with pictures of gods and other religious icons. Where we gather for prayers, meditation, and quiet periods is a calm and pleasant setting. A beloved custom that has been passed down through the years emphasises the value of spirituality and divine connection in our lives by keeping the Ishan Kon clean and sacred.

Now you know which direction is ishan kon.

I completely agree with Vinay regarding the Ishan Kon direction which denotes the Northeast direction. When I bought my house, I had no idea about the Ishan Kon meaning. My mother asked me to place my house temple in the direction of Ishan Kon.

I asked her “Ishan Kon means which direction?” in response, and I learned from her that Ishan Kon refers to the northeast. She told me that placing the home temple at the Ishan Kon will bring prosperity to home. She also told me that I can use the Ishan Kon as my study room. This particular location should be kept neat and clean.

I learned from her that if the Ishan Kon wall is having any sort of crack, that might lead to loss of wealth according to Vastu. Hence, the remedy for this is to hang a Rudra toran on the door.

I’d like to conclude here regarding the Ishan Kon direction. I hope this helps:)

Hi there,

The word ‘Ishan’ means the place of Gods and ‘kon’ means angle. So to answer the question what is Ishan Kon, it can be said that Ishan Kon means the angle of the house where all Gods reside. All of our houses have an ishan kon. I got acquainted with this concept when my mother told me about it. Ishan kon is that area of the house which is located in the extreme north-east corner of the house or your plot. It is a sub direction that is found between the North and the East direction. It holds a great value in Vastu Shastra and Hindu Mythology as it is said to be the direction of Gods. Almost all auspicious tasks and activities are done in this direction.

What is Ishan Kon in Vastu and Construction in Ishan Kon?

As can be understood now, Ishan Kon is the most auspicious part of a house and it is in this part that all the favourable structures of your home should be constructed. Let’s understand which parts of the house are said to be most favourable when built in Ishan Kon.

  1. Main Gate: If your plot faces north or east direction, the main gate must be placed in the north-east direction or the Ishan kon for the smooth inflow of positive energy into the house.

  2. Pooja Room: It is always suggested in Vastu to keep the pooja room in the Ishan Kon as it is ultimately where the Gods will reside in your home.

  3. Study Room: Ishan kon is said to have a very positive impact on the spiritual as well as intellectual awakening, so a study room or a study table should also be faced in the Ishan kon.

  4. Garden Area: Garden area is usually an open area so it is suggested that it should be in the Ishan kon as an open area will allow the positive energy to flow quite easily into the house.

Apart from this, you must always keep Ishan Kon clean and hygienic. I hope now you have a clearer idea of what is Ishan kon.
