A Patta can be referred to as a legal document that the government issues in the name of the actual owner of a particular piece of land. It is a vital document to establish legal possession of the property. If the plot has one owner, it will have a Patta but if it has more than one owner, then a joint patta is issued. How to apply for Patta?

It is very easy to apply for Patta online. Here are the steps that need to be followed-

  • Visit the Tamil Nadu government website or click on

https://eservices.tn.gov.in/eservicesnew/index.html

  • Click on View Patta/Chitta

  • Provide details like district, taluk, village, and others

  • Click on Submit

  • You need to pay the fee, so pay it using your credit/debit card or net banking, and it is done.

You can apply for Patta offline as well. In that case, you will need to

  • Visit Tahsilar’s office

  • Fill in the Patta application form

  • Enclose all the property documents, and it's done

If you want to add your name to the joint patta, then you need to follow these steps only. Joint patta registration is nothing but adding another owner’s name along with the former owner's to gain property ownership. Let me give you an example.

Suppose A is the original owner of plot X

B is now another owner of plot X

So B needs to issue a joint patta with A to have equal ownership rights over X

In such a case, a joint Patta is issued and registered with both A and B’s names.
