Recently I visited one of my friends, Sushila. At her place, I was amazed by the beauty of a lacquered table. Hence, I started enquiring about what does a lacquered finish means. Sushila told me that a protective and ornamental layer that is coated to a variety of surfaces—mostly wood, but occasionally metal, glass, or other materials—is known as a lacquered finish. 

Layers of lacquer, a transparent or coloured liquid that dries to provide a hard, glossy surface, are applied to obtain this finish.

What Does Clear Lacquer Do?

Clear lacquer offers a translucent layer of protection for metal, wood, and even some types of art. It improves the material underneath with a glossy surface and protects it from moisture, UV light, and physical damage. Clear lacquer is a versatile finish used in furniture, automotive, and decorative applications.

What Does a Lacquer Finish Look Like?

A lacquer finish gives a smooth, polished, mirror-like surface and usually looks shiny and reflecting. It can be clear or tinted offering a variety of visual options, from glossy to satin to matte.

• Lacquers emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be a health hazard. It’s highly inflammable.
