Nothing gives more bliss to the eyes than a luscious, green lawn. So, what is a lawn? Lawn's are basically planted with green grass and plants such as clover which is supposed to be maintained at a short height. For this, a land mower is required to prune the trees and the grass. Every lawn requires maintenance. And this is a job which can relax anyone. Yes, lawn maintenance is not easy but it is recreational. My grandfather loved plants and it was his hobby to maintain a lawn.

Basics of home lawn maintenance:

There are eight major parts one must focus on for lawn maintenance. Such as:

  • Watering

  • Mowing

  • Fertilizing

  • Fighting weeds

  • Fighting pests

  • Fighting disease

  • Aerating

  • De-thatching

Watering:

Watering is simple yet it is very crucial for plants. If you have a lawn you should soak 6 to 8 inches deep so that the roots of each plant get proper nutrients. For grass, you should water them daily either in the morning or in the evening.

Mowing:

Mowing is an important process that helps the grasses grow. As blades cut leaves, plants grow rapidly to absorb the sunlight. Thus in turn it makes the lawn look thicker and heavier with greens.

Fertilising:

Adding nutrients to the soil for proper development is crucial for grass and plants. Since mowing increases the growth, plants and grasses will require more fertilisers. Granular fertilisers can be used once or twice a year for proper nourishment.

Aerating:

Aerate is important if you are maintaining a lawn since the oxygen can't reach the microbes for a breakdown of organic material in the soil.

Dethatching:

When the thatch becomes thick, it is better to remove the thick thatch from the soil. Dethatching is the mechanical removal of thatch layer.

Weeding:

Weeds can damage a lawn. And it is natural for weeds to pop up in a healthy lawn. While maintaining the lawn one should always keep an eye on weeds. weeds make the soil degenerate and at the same time make the plants and grass weaker. So, if you see a weed on a lawn remove it immediately.

Pest Control

A lawn can get affected by insects that harm plants and therefore they die. So, proper pest control is necessary periodically.

Fighting disease:

At times fungi feed the plant and take up all the nutrients. Healthy grass can attract fungus easily. Therefore, fungicides should be used to protect plants.

This is what is lawn maintenance in a nutshell. I hope you like it.
