I love ceramic plates and use them for my house but last week our maid broke three plates and I was so disappointed. After a week, my husband bought me a new Opalware glass dinner set and let me tell you, this material cannot be broken easily. I did not know what material is opalware but after surfing the internet, I understood. Opalware is a type of dinnerware or tableware made from a special type of glass called opal glass. It looks translucent and milky-white resembling fine porcelain, and if you love ceramic, you will love opalware as well.

What are the advantages of opalware glass?

Some of the advantages of Opalware glass are:

  • Opalware glass is highly resistant to chipping and breaking, making it long-lasting.

  • They can withstand high temperatures, making them suitable for use in ovens and microwaves.

  • Opalware has a milky-white, porcelain-like appearance, which looks amazing

  • It is lighter than traditional porcelain or ceramic tableware, making it easier to handle.

  • Opalware is non-porous, which means it doesn't absorb food odours or flavours.

  • It is dishwasher-safe and easy to clean, reducing the hassle of maintenance.

Opalware is 100% food-safe as well so do not worry about it. If you have more recommendations, do share them here. I learned what is opalware glass and its advantages and I hope you have too.

I came to know what is opalware material after I started living alone and eventually I developed a hobby of collecting beautiful dinnerware. Let me share the wisdom I have about opalware crockery.

Meaning of opalware

Opalware is toughened glass that has a recognisable pure white colour. Opalware is created from opal glass using German technology through a thermal process that boosts the material's resilience, making it roughly three times more robust and scratch and chip resistant. They can survive temperature changes without losing their strength or shine since they are heat resistant. The name of the material refers to how it ultimately appears, which is opaque rather than transparent or translucent like regular glass.

Is opalware good for health?

Dinner sets made of Opalware are completely vegetarian, devoid of bone ash, and ideal for serving both hot and cold food.  Opal glass dinnerware satisfies a number of requirements, including the drop ball test, chip test, thermo-resistant test, and scratch-resistant test. They are only carefully packed and sent to gorgeous kitchens, where they fit and mix just as nicely, after passing these tests.

Why is opal crockery a great choice?

  • Opalware is made of toughened opal glass, which gives it greater tensile strength and durability. This indicates that it can survive regular use without easily cracking or fracturing. So, if you are wondering is opalware breakable or not, it certainly is but it is way more durable than any other ceramic.

  • Opalware is resistant to both scratches and chips, making it a carefree and enduring option for everyday usage.

  • Even after frequent dishwasher usage, the designs on the opalware won't fade. Thus, your opal ware will continue to look brand-new for a considerable amount of time.

  • Opalware is entirely bone ash free, unlike bone china, making it entirely vegetarian. For people who choose not to use products that contain animal byproducts, this makes it an ethical choice.

  • Opalware is completely chemical-free and won't contaminate your food in any way. It is therefore a risk-free decision for you and your family.

  • Opalware is stain and odour resistant and is simple to clean and maintain since it does not collect stains or odours.

  • Opalware is exceptionally sanitary and straightforward to clean. It dries rapidly and is simple to wash by hand or in a dishwasher.

  • Opalware is microwave safe, so you may heat food and beverages in it without worrying about the product being harmed.

I had the notion that ceramic and opalware are the same but it is not the case. Once when I went to buy a dinner set, the shopkeeper explained to me the actual opalware meaning. It is basically a glass material that is white in colour but is not easily breakable. If you have the query- opalware is breakable or not let me tell you it is highly break-resistant and will not break until a very strong force is given on it. This has become my new favourite so let me share more of its qualities here.

Opalware is glass or plastic?

Please note that opalware is not at all plastic but a glass material, actually fluorine to be precise. Being unbreakable to a great extent it is believed to be made of plastic but it is not. It is basically made of toughened opal glass and is

  • Heat resistant

  • Scratch proof

I hope this answers what is opalware made of and why is it preferred so much nowadays.

Which is better- opalware and porcelain?

If you ask me I will say opalware is better. They are lighter, more durable and more translucent than porcelain hence it is better. In fact, ceramic also needs utmost care while handling and breaks quite easily so opalware is better than ceramic as well.

I hope the opalware meaning is all clear to you now.
