Last year I bought a plot in Bangalore. Just before I started constructing my house, my mother-in-law suggested dividing the plot on the basis of Padas in Vastu. This will determine the auspicious direction in which the house should be constructed.

What is Pada in Vastu?

The length and width of the plot where you want to construct the house should be divided into nine parts to produce 9x9=81 little squares or rectangles. These 81 squares or rectangles are known as Vastu Shastra Padas. It is also known as the Ekaseeti Pada Vastu.

The northwest Pada is first, and the southwest Pada is ninth.

Vastu Pada division is essential. By doing this division one can get the following advantages:

  • We can arrive at the center pada (BrahmaSthana), of the plot.

  • Four directions South, East, North, and West can be fixed with reference to the site.

  • It becomes easy to arrive at the location where Simhadwara (main entrance) shall be fixed.

  • It becomes easy to locate the points of Mahamarma in the plot. In these Marmasthanas entrances, windows, beams, and pillars should not be constructed.

According to the Vastu padas;
  • The fifth pada is the most fortunate place for the main door in an east-facing home.

  • If the fifth pada is small, the entry can be placed in the third, fourth, sixth, or seventh pada.

  • Place the puja room in the northeast. It is incredibly lucky.

  • If you intend to utilise Pada 1st as your main entrance, be sure to allow at least 6 inches (1/2 feet) from the North-East wall; that is, the main door shouldn't touch the corner of the North-East wall.

  • The padas 6th and 7th can be used, if there is no option of placing the main door facing padas 4th, 3rd, 2nd, or 1st.

  • Keep in mind that the eighth and ninth Padas are the "prohibited" ones and should never be utilised as a home's entryway.

I’d like to conclude my answer here about the Padas in Vastu. I hope this helps:)
