What is piling work in construction?

It is a process in which the foundation of the building is reinforced to help the superstructure bear its weight. The load of the building’s weight is transmitted to deeper strata via soil reinforcement techniques (geopolymers or chemical treatments).

In short, when foundations are drilled through the soil/ ground to give structural support to the weak soil underneath. It is known as piling. Usually, for piling, steel or reinforced concrete, or high-quality timber is used. The columns used for reinforcement are generally circular. 

Why is it done?

The load and weight of a building are held by its horizontal and vertical rods and bars. Piling is done in areas where the soil will not prevent excessive settlement and damage the foundation of the building. Which in turn will not be able to wear the load of the superstructure.
