Home insurance is a type of insurance that pays out money for unexpected damage to your home. You have to prove your loss through documentation and get it mitigated as soon as possible. It is hard to tell the average time to settle home insurance claim since a long process is to be followed to claim the insurance and only upon verification does it get approved. The fewer errors the documents have, the faster the claim gets approved. It should usually be done within 30 days. There is, however, no home insurance claim time limit, so you can claim your insurance anytime (ideally, it should be done within 3 years).

What is the process for claiming insurance?

In case of any loss, your process to claim the insurance should be systematic. So here are the basic steps that must be followed-

  • Take notes of the loss in detail

  • Go through the insurance policy and make sure your loss comes under its area

  • Call the insurance company

  • Coordinate with the surveyor

  • Follow up with the insurer and make sure you receive the claim

Also, please note that, in general, there might not be any such home insurance claim settlement time frame, but always go through the policy of the insurance company and make sure you abide by their rules. If they mention any time frame within which you should claim the insurance, you must do so within that stipulated time.

This is what I know about the average time to settle home insurance claim.
