I thought prepaid is like the wallet system in paytm but no. Both are different. The best way to know about prepaid is through mobile. Most of us opt for prepaid recharges, that is, we add money to our phone to use it for calling, sending text, for using the internet and more. Prepaid cards work in a similar way. I live in Kolkata and there are a number of food courts here who ask the customers to have prepaid cards then order food. We recharge it, or add money to it and then use it for buying things be it food or dress or anything. I hope you have got an idea about the difference between prepaid card and debit card now. Let me tell you more about it so that you understand it better. Also do know that both might work in a similar manner but their way of working is hugely different.

The chief difference between prepaid card and debit card is that the former is not linked with the bank but the later is. When you use a prepaid card, you are spending the money that has already been added to it but in the case of a debit card, as it is linked with the bank, you are using the bank’s money directly. This is the major point of prepaid card vs debit card.

Is it safe to use a prepaid card?

I personally feel it is safer to use a prepaid card than a debit card as it is not linked with a bank so there is no point of losing a huge amount of money as prepaid cards don't have a lump sum money like that of our bank accounts. None of them can help you build credit and have different ways of managing your money but both are PIN protected so are safe to use always.

This is all I can say to answer your question of what is the difference between debit card and prepaid card.
