Summary
The key differences between HDHMR (High-Density High Moisture Resistant) board and WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) are their compositions and applications. HDHMR is formed from wood fibres and resins, whereas WPC is made up of wood powder and plastic polymers. HDHMR is appropriate for indoor furniture and cabinets, whereas WPC is ideal for both indoor and outdoor (particularly water-exposed) applications.

Hey Kaarti. I can surely tell you about the differences between HDHMR vs WPC board. So, I will take you through 4 major points to differentiate between HDHMR and the WPC boards. These are components, cost, moisture adaptability and application. So, going through how these two boards are different on these 4 parameters should help you.

WPC vs HDHMR

  1. Components: WPC comprises wood fibers, plastic-like PVC or polypropylene and additives. While HDHMR consists of fibers, resins, wood and chemicals.

  2. Cost: WPC is more affordable in comparison to HDHMR. As the manufacturing process is cheaper for WPC, it beats HDHMR as the more cost effective option.

  3. Moisture Adaptability: Although both are highly resistant to water, HDHMR performs better in high moisture areas like bathrooms and kitchens.

  4. Application: HDHMR performs better in indoor regions as it is engineered to deal with high moisture content. While WPC excels in high humidity indoor environments.

So, these are some differences we have between HDHMR and WPC. I hope these will be helpful for you.

When I was trying to choose the right material for flooring and furniture, this debate about WPC vs HDHMR came to my mind. The basic difference between the both is that WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) is made from a combination of plastic and wood fibres, and are long-lasting, moisture-resistant material that is perfect for outdoor use. In contrast, HDHMR (High-Density High Moisture Resistant) is a dense, moisture-resistant board that is intended for indoor use in high-humidity spaces like bathrooms and kitchens.

Which is Better HDHMR or WPC?

After researching a lot, I found the following differences, and ultimately opted for WPC for my home.

  1. Moisture resistant: Although both materials can withstand moisture, WPC is more water-resistant, which makes it perfect for outdoor applications or locations that are exposed to direct water.

  2. Durability: WPC and HDHMR are both long-lasting, but WPC performs better in settings where rot, decay, or insect damage are issues.

  3. Aesthetics: WPC usually has a more synthetic appearance, but HDHMR offers additional finish options that enable more realistic-looking designs.

  4. Uses: WPC is favoured for outdoor use and locations with significant water exposure, while HDHMR is better suited for inside uses, particularly in places that are prone to moisture.

  5. Cost: WPC may be more expensive because of its improved durability and waterproof qualities, whereas HDHMR is typically less expensive, especially for interior applications.

So as per my opinion, both are good options but you should choose the one that can serve your purpose. For instance, for outdoor usage, opt for WPC, and for interior opt for HDHMR.

There are many premium woods on the market that you may choose from to build your home with the highest-quality materials possible. WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) and HDMR (High-Density Mineral Fiberboard) are two common materials used in the manufacturing and construction industries. Let's check out the HDHMR vs WPC comparison table below.

HDHMR Board vs WPC Board

You can see that WPC and HDHMR differ in a number of factors from the table below:

Comparison Parameters WPC Board HDHMR Board

Composition

A combination of plastic polymers and wood fibers is used to create WPC.

This board is a composite material composed of mineral additives and wood fibers that are fused together under high pressure.

Termite Proof

It is highly resistant to termite.

It is not completely resistant to termite.

Screw Holding Capability

Very Low

High only for the screws employed with the drilling machine.
