I have been living in Bangalore for the last two years, as I moved here because of my studies. On average, my monthly expenses range from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 25,000. Now, let me tell you, this amount is not fixed as in some months I have to go to college nearly every day and others maybe twice a week. Let me help you understand the living cost in Bangalore for students.
What is the Cost of Living in Bangalore for Students?
To make it easier for you to understand, I have added a table below of how my monthly expenses look when I travel to college daily.
Expenses |
Cost Range |
Rent (Single Room PG) |
Rs. 15,000 |
Food (Monthly) |
Rs. 5,000 |
Metro Pass |
Rs. 1,500 |
Transportation (Monthly) |
Rs. 1000 |
Utilities (Monthly) |
Rs. 500 |
These are my monthly expenses for the months that I travel to college every day. In the months when I don’t travel this frequently, I don’t take the metro pass, and it reduces my expenses by Rs. 1,500. And that’s about it. I hope this helps.

Cost of living in Bangalore for a bachelor:- Rent and property rates
A bachelor or spinster in Bangalore will be able to rent a 1 BHK property for roughly Rs 15,000 per month. They can also split the rent by living in a shared flat with others. I live in a PG that costs roughly Rs. 8000 per month, which includes North Indian food. Which, in my opinion, is fairly acceptable and doable while considering the cost of living in Bangalore for a student or bachelor such as ourselves.
- The cost of living
In Bangalore for a bachelor or spinster will be roughly Rs 7000. This will include Internet and electricity costs, as well as domestic help, maintenance, and other expenses. This will happen only if you are staying in a PG accommodation.
- Transportation
If you are using the monthly bus pass, you can keep the transportation costs around Rs 1000. Also, metros are available public transportation options that you can opt for. Please be cautious when taking autos; you can, of course, choose Uber or Rapido. Normal roadside autos, on the other hand, can charge you exorbitant amounts of money even for a short distance.
- Lifestyle
Bangalore's lifestyle can range from simple pleasures to expensive partying experiences. When it comes to nightlife, clubbing, booze, and other activities, it is all up to you. The more you indulge in these affairs, the more money you will spend.
I would like to conclude my answer here about the living cost in Bangalore for students. I hope this helps:)
