When we pay more in taxes, rent, or rates than is necessary, you may be entitled to a reimbursement. I came to learn about this through my father. He used to keep track and copy of all the bills he used to pay. He told me what is the meaning of rebate in electricity bill. He said that a Government rebate in electricity bill refers to up to two annual rebates per calendar year that the Secretary of State may, in compliance with this condition, require the licensee to deliver to a Domestic Customer. This applies to any eligible Domestic Customer. The Government Electricity Rebate (GER) should not affect revenues, to be clear.

During the Covid surge period, I read the news that a refund programme worth up to ₹220 was introduced by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) for customers who pay their electricity bills on time. The electricity regulator discovered that revenue collection in the form of bill payments had experienced a "steep decline" ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi enforced a statewide 21-day lockdown last month, which led to the decision to provide incentives to consumers.

If the payment was made within 1-7 days of the billing date, consumers were eligible to receive 1% of the bill amount (excluding any arrears, if any), or 200 rupees (whichever is less), under the programme. The rebate was 0.5% of the bill amount, or ₹150 if the payment is made within 8 to 14 days after the invoice date (whichever is lower).
