What is the meaning of subsidy ?It can be deemed as a financial grant that is given by the government or private institutions to encourage economic growth. Subsidies are provided by public entities as well. It is a sum of money that encourages a private organization to undertake various economic activities and ventures for the public interest.
These are types of subsidy : Export subsidies :These are given by the government to support the export of goods to sell internationally. It boosts trade surplus for residents and increases the GDP of the country.
Agriculture subsidies :These are given by the government to support the agricultural industry and farmers.
It boosts food surplus for citizens and increases the GDP of the country.
Overall, a lot of goods and services can be subsidized. This was what is the meaning of subsidised.
Housing subsidies :These are given by the government to support the citizens to own houses by providing them with lower interest rates and schemes. PMAY or Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna is an example of a housing subsidy.
