What is the Water Charges in Kerala?

Last month, I noticed my water bill seemed a bit higher than usual. I didn’t know much about the water charges per unit in Kerala, so I asked a friend who knew more about it to help me figure it out. He explained that the charges depend on how much water you use each month, and it’s not as complicated as I thought.

What is the Water Rate in Kerala?

• Up to 5,000 liters: The minimum charge is Rs. 72.05. If you use less than this, you’ll still pay this amount.

• 5,000 to 10,000 liters: For this range, the charge starts at Rs. 72.05, plus Rs, 14.41 for every 1,000 liters over the first 5,000 liters.

• 10,000 to 15,000 liters: The base charge is Rs. 144.10, with an additional Rs. 15.51 for each 1,000 liters above 10,000 liters.

• 15,000 to 20,000 liters: The cost is Rs. 16.62 for each 1,000 liters of water used for the entire consumption.

• Above 50,000 liters: If you use more than 50,000 liters, the charge is Rs. 1,272.

My friend also pointed out that there are extra charges from the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for things like meter reading, meter rent, and any pipeline extensions, which I had no idea about before. It was really helpful to get a clear understanding of the different water charge per unit in Kerala.
