Hello Gyan, I came across your query regarding what is wall panel and I can help you with the answer. I renovated my living room and bedroom, where we used wall panelling.

Wall panels have either an adhesive system or a screwing system which can be mounted on existing walls. They give a modern and aesthetic feel to your space.

What Does Wall Panelling Meaning?

Wall panels are a trendy option to decorate your house walls. They have a smooth finish and come in a variety of options to choose from. They not only beautify a space but also make the walls functional.

What are the Different Kinds of Wall Panels?

Here are the two types of panels that I feel is suitable for a lot.

  1. Fibre Cement: These are wall panels made from cement, cellulose fibres and sand. They need little maintenance, and occasional cleaning and show great resistance and durability against moisture, mould, fire and insects. They come in multiple styles and textures.

  2. Natural wood panels: These create a warm atmosphere in the room and with the natural grain and texture of wood, the room’s depth is also increased. They come in various finishes like stained, painted and unfinished.

There are other types as well, which have been shared by others in their answers. This is all about wall panel meaning. I hope it helps.

I was so bored with the mundane look of my living room. On discussing this with my interior designer friend I got to know what are wall panels and how it will uplift the look of my living room.

What is Panelling On Walls?

Wall panelling is the process of adding ornamental panels to the walls to give them a fashionable and eye-catching appearance. My friend highlighted the different types of wall panelling;

  • Laminate Finish Panels

  • Wood Panels

  • MDF Panels

  • PVC Panels

  • Upholstered Panels

  • Glass Panels

  • Mirror Panels

  • Wainscoting

  • Brick or Stone Veneer Panels

  • Metal Wall Panels

After highlighting what does panelling mean, and the types of wall panelling, my interior designer friend also mentioned the benefits of wall panelling;

  • Wall paneling provides a plethora of customising options, catering to aesthetic preferences ranging from traditional, rustic, modern, or minimalist.

  • In a room, wall paneling can help improve soundproofing and insulation.

  • Wall paneling can provide walls with additional protection in high-traffic areas or places that are subject to wear and tear, such corridors or children's rooms.

I finally decided to opt for wood panelling as I believe wooden panels can be stained to bring out the natural wood grain or painted to fit the preferred colour scheme.
