When I first hired professional movers, I assumed they would move everything. But to my surprise, there were certain items they simply refused to touch. What Will Movers Not Move?
Movers usually refuse to transport hazardous materials like gasoline, paint, or chemicals. I remember the painter had left behind some cans of paint, and the movers refused to take them. Items like propane tanks, fire extinguishers, or anything flammable are also on their list of things movers won’t move. These rules are in place for safety reasons, which I could completely understand.
Another thing movers won’t move is perishable food. If you’ve got a fridge or pantry full of groceries, it’s best to clear them out or move them yourself.
Similarly, any personal or high-value items like jewellery, documents, or money are your responsibility. I learned this when the movers kindly suggested I keep those items with me instead of packing them with everything else.
Lastly, movers may not transport pets, plants, or firearms. Living things, like plants and pets, need special care that movers aren’t equipped for. It’s best to plan alternative transport for them.
Knowing these things helped me prepare better and saved me from any last-minute surprises. Movers handle most of the heavy lifting, but it's always good to know what movers won’t move so you can plan accordingly.
