I renovated my kitchen quite recently through NoBroker Renovation Service. They suggested tiles for kitchen countertops. I asked them

what type of tile is best for kitchen countertops and they suggested ceramic tiles.

They said that ceramic tile is resistant to both heat and moisture, does not discolour, and is also grout resistant. So, I decided to get ceramic tile countertops for my kitchen.

Which is the Best Tile for Kitchen Countertops?

The NoBroker Renovation team told me that two types of tile are the most popular. They are;

  • Ceramic

. Ceramic tile, the most popular and affordable choice, is made from pressed clay and sealed with a glaze. The porous substance is shielded from stains and moisture by the glaze.

  • Porcelain

. Porcelain, which is made of minerals and clays burned at higher temperatures, has a long-lasting surface. Compared to ceramic, it costs more and requires more installation work.

Out of these ceramic is the best for kitchen countertops.

What are the Considerations When Choosing the Best Tile for Countertops?

  • Both thickness and hardness:

According to the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) hardness rating system, countertop a tile should have a Class 3 rating. Although a quarter inch is also used, 5/16 inch countertop tiles are typically employed.

  • Specifications of the design:

While selecting a tile countertop, take into account the following factors.

  • Dimensions

. Select from a range of sizes, including 48-inch squares and tiny mosaics. One word of caution: more grout lines will be visible in smaller tiles, which may require extra cleaning on your part.

  • Finish

. Smooth glazed, matte, printed, hand-painted, crackling, and cracked are among the options. Remember that less glossy surfaces might serve as a good way to hide damage.

  • Grout

. Grout can be coloured to contrast or complement, depending on the style that you want.

  • Accents

. Tile can be easily put up on the wall for a coordinating backsplash or inlaid close to the range as an integrated trivet.

  • Maintenance:

Every day, clean the countertop with a gentle cloth and warm water. Household cleaners without oil content are appropriate. Ammonia can discolour the grout, so stay away from using it.

I am sure now you understand what type of tile is best for kitchen countertops.
