My house construction is complete, and I have decided to start painting. I discussed interior, exterior, and deck painting with my painter. He advised me not to paint the deck yet because it needs time to dry. Then I asked when can I paint my new deck, he said it should dry for at least six months before painting. He also shared information about that, which I have mentioned below.

When can You Paint a New Deck?

The painter informed me that pressure-treated lumber should be allowed to dry for at least six months before applying any stain or wood treatment.

  1. A simple way to check if it’s ready is to pour water on the surface. If it beads up, the wood is still too wet; if the water soaks in, it’s ready for staining.

  2. He also mentioned that the deck includes kiln-dried lumber, which is typically what you find at hardwood stores. This type of wood should be given at least one to two months to dry before applying stain or paint.

I hope you now have a clear idea of when the new deck can be painted.
