There are primarily three different grades of quartz countertops. I was earlier unaware of these types, but when we renovated our kitchen and planned to install quartz countertops because of its popularity and durability, I learned that quartz countertops come in different types. To understand which one would be best, our renovation contractor helped us with some pros and cons of all three of them. I am sharing the same with you all.

What are the Different Quartz Countertops Grades?

We learned that the best kind of quartz countertop will have more percentage of natural quartz. The three major types are:

  1. Low-grade

  2. Mid-grade

  3. High-grade

I am also sharing a detailed table listing the advantages and disadvantages of each type of quartz countertop.

Types

Pros

Cons

Low Grade

Affordable option and mostly ideal for rental properties or those looking for temporary solutions

Less durable and more prone to chipping. Thinner slabs and fewer design options.

Middle Grade

Good durability, thicker slabs, and offer more color and pattern options

Does not look very luxurious or aesthetic

High Grade

Scratch resistant, resale value, thick slabs, and premium design options

Expensive and thick slabs may require costly installation

So, we opted for middle grade as it aligned with our budget and the designs were good too. I hope this will help you understand the different types and also guide you through selecting the best countertop for your kitchen and budget. I can answer your query: are there different grades of quartz countertops? We have opted for a quartz countertop in our kitchen; hence, we have acquired some idea about it from our professional renovator. Three main grades of quartz countertops Grade A; Mid-Grade and Low-Quality Quartz, are used in India. Mrunal has explained them well so let me just add a bit more information.

Are There Different Grades of Quartz?

Yes, there are different grades of quartz as Mrunal mentioned. They are

  • Grade-A or top-class quartz. This grade’s quartz is of the highest quality but is also costly and is mainly used to get flawless finishes.

  • Mid-grade quartz is mostly used in bars and restaurants. They tend to look more attractive but are less durable compared to Grade A quartz.

  • The last one is graded as a second choice, which is basically low-grade quartz. Initially, they might look bright but within a short time, they become dull.

Now, as per your need and budget, you can decide which grade of quartz you want to use.

Which is the Best Quality Quartz in India?

Some of the best brands of quartz available in India are:

  • Caesarstone Quartz

  • Cambria Quartz

  • Silestone Quartz

  • Quantra Quartz

You can visit a shop and enquire about them or simply extract their details online.

There are 3 quartz grades: first choice, commercial grade, and second choice. Every grade affects the price, the property's overall value, and its durability and beauty.

What are the Grades of Quartz Countertops?

First Choice Quartz:

The most expensive and finest grade is quartz. It has the most exquisite hues and patterns, resembling the natural stones granite and marble.

Premium-grade quartz is a good investment for homeowners looking to upgrade to a beautiful, high-quality countertop since it has minimum seams, superior durability, and scratch resistance.

Commercial Grade Quartz:

While it is not as flawless as Grade A or first choice, it is still of a decent quality. Its designs might not be as striking, and its imperfections are more obvious. It also lacks crystal clarity.

Nevertheless, Grade B quartz is still a reasonable and practical choice for homes on a tight budget, with the majority of flaws only becoming apparent upon careful examination.

Second Choice Quartz:

The second option is builder's grade quartz, which is the lowest quality grade. Due to its cost, this grade is usually utilised in newly constructed homes and apartments. Quartz of the builder's grade is mass-produced and devoid of the distinctive hues and patterns found in higher grades. It might also have more obvious defects and seams, which would detract from its overall appeal.

I hope this helps you understand the 3 different types of quartz countertops grades.
