The structure had suffered a lot and thus, we finally thought of getting a new table. To avoid this in future, I researched wood eating insects name and the signs to know whether an insect has attacked your wooden furniture. So, Let me share some details regarding the same.

  • Carpenter Bees:

These kinds of bees do not cause any harm to humans. They do not feed on wood either. However, they do weaken the structure of the wood to build their nests. During this, they leave a huge pile of sawdust as well. These kinds of insects mainly damage weathered and unpainted exterior softwoods of decking, furniture, etc.

  • Furniture Beetle:

They are also known as woodworms because small white grubs and larvae feed on hard and softwoods which are at least a decade old. They attack moist wooden surfaces and can be found in areas such as wooden flooring, crawl spaces and more.

How to tell if insects are consuming wood

  1. Deposition of mould or mildew around the wood near water pipes.

  2. Development of small round holes in the wood.

  3. Existence of fine wood shavings and sawdust around the exit holes.

I hope you now know which insect attacks wood and destroys it.
