My best friend and I almost got into a fight over which is better carpet or hardwood floors. Each of them has its own set of pros and cons, though. For me, hardwood floors seem better as they are more durable than carpets. But, my friend was also right in several aspects about carpet. A carpet is less expensive than a hardwood floor, and it can be changed without much fuss as well. She cited several points justifying why is carpet better than hardwood, but those were too few to convince me. Let me cite some differences between the two so that you can choose as per your requirements.

Hardwood floors can last for decades with proper maintenance and care

Carpets can be vacuumed regularly and professionally cleaned once a year

Hardwood floors require regular sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping

Hardwood floors come in a smaller selection of colours

Carpet can hide small imperfections in your floors

Hardwood will show any stains or scratches evidently

Carpet traps allergens and dust as it has uneven surface

Hardwood floors do not trap allergens or dust as they have a smooth surface.

Carpeting has more cushioning and can provide better protection if someone falls

Hardwood floors are slip-resistant, making them a safer option for children and the elderly

Carpets does affect the resale value of a house
