Home equity loans and home equity lines of credit (HELOCs) are two types of loans that a borrower can secure to own a home. A borrower can take an equity loan or credit line if they have a home. Equity is the difference between what is due on the mortgage and the home’s current market value. Home equity lines of credit are a type of fund you get much like a credit card where the lender provides a maximum amount within an agreed period where the collateral is the borrower’s property. Not trying to be diplomatic but choose home loan equity or HELOC at your convenience. But I will suggest you go for home equity loans if you are buying a house. You will get tax exemption if you take home equity loans but you cannot avail of the same if you opt for HELOC.
But HELOC provides you with the option to take as much money as you want. So, again this is also a good option if you cannot estimate how much you are willing to spend. Generally, it provides you cash for a set period of 10 years. But if the market value of the property lowers the lender will also lower or close your credit line. So, getting access to money all the time is not always the case.
