To understand PG or flat which is better, you need to understand your requirements. I would say families would be better off with a flat because it offers more privacy and space. PGs, however, are preferred by working professionals and students because they offer amenities like laundry and dining.

Finding convenience in another city can end up being a real test of patience, time and money, particularly for students, bachelors, or working people. Naturally, if you are a student or have just started working, you may not be able to afford a luxurious multi-storey rental apartment. If you ask me about PG vs flat, I would say that for students and bachelors, PGs offer the best conveniences at an agreeable rate. However, there are challenges associated with living in PGs. And for families and couples, flats are better. I will tell you which is better PG or flat, by telling you the pros and cons of both.

Is PG better or flat?

Go through the table below to understand which is better or more suitable for you.

Factors PG Flat

Common Facilities

When it comes to staying in a PG, you have it all set for you. Most PGs come with beds, a table to study, chairs, three meals a day, a refrigerator, and a Wi-Fi connection for students to study, all included in an affordable monthly payment.

When it comes to a rented apartment, while moving in you may have to purchase these things individually as per your needs.

Security

While living in a PG, be it a single or a shared room, there will always be people within the PG area, be it other students, who will be able to help you in case of an emergency.

In an apartment, there will be people in a gated society, but most of them may not know you. In such a case, you may have to rely on yourself for security.

Rent

Getting a PG is a much more economical option, especially for students or single tenants.

Rental apartments will cost higher and are usually opted for by families or a group of bachelors to live together and share all expenses.

Food

Most PGs provide food, typically three meals a day, and it’s included in their monthly rent. This saves them from the hassle of cooking.

House for rent does not provide this liberty, so you either have to cook yourself or hire one. Hiring a helping hand will add more bucks to your monthly expenses.

Maintenance Cost

PGs don’t throw maintenance charges at you.

While living in rental flats, a big chunk of expenditure goes towards monthly maintenance like cleaning, fixing, or other requirements.

Privacy & Restrictions

When you are staying as a paying guest, owners usually put a lot of restrictions. For a person who loves their privacy and does not like restrictions, staying in a PG can prove to be difficult.

In that regard, apartments for rent do not come with these regulations, as the owner does not take responsibility for your actions.

I hope this clarifies your doubts about

PG vs flat.
