When I was designing my house, I couldn't decide between wallpaper or texture paint for the walls in my living room. After speaking with a painting contractor, I became aware of the benefits and drawbacks of each choice. In the end, I decided on textured paint. Whatever, I got to know from the painting contractor, I put it down in the below-given table for your understanding.

What is the Difference Between Texture Paint and Wallpaper?

  • Textured Paints- Textured paints come in many ranges. Different forms are there such as Enamel, Distemper and Emulsion. They can be painted on the walls as a solid colour.

  • Wallpapers - Wallpapers have to be pasted on the wall using generous amounts of adhesive. Wallpapers come in plain colours or in prints and in different designs.

Differences

Textured Paint

Wallpaper

Preparation

Total Preparation time taken is 24 hours

Preparation time can vary as per wallpaper and adhesive quality

Application

To apply two coats of paint it can take 48 hours

It will take 24 hours for the adhesive to dry.

Durability

Durability depends on type of paint used gloss and semi gloss paints are highly durable

Wallpaper is highly durable too

Cost

Textured paint is more affordable.

Setting up wallpaper with tools involved high cost.

Maintenance

The wall should be repainted if it gets chipped

Wallpaper is easier to maintain. Only the affected area needs to be patched up.

As I already said that I opted for textured paint, I can say that this was mainly done because for me it was a cost-effective option.

Hi,

Choosing the right wall finish is important when it comes to creating the right ambiance. There are two types of finish that people use: wallpaper and texture paint. t becomes quite hard to choose between wallpaper vs texture paint.

I was at a similar crossroad when deciding what to use in my house. So, I hired a painter to understand what would be the right choice. The painter told me about their advantages and disadvantages.

Which Is Better Texture Paint Or Wallpaper?

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of texture paint according to the painter.

Advantages Of Texture Paint

  • Textured paints adds a unique artistic touch to the walls.

  • There are endless texture possibilities, such as sandy, smooth, etc.

  • They can hide minor wall imperfections and uneven surfaces.

Disadvantages Of Texture Paint

  • They have limitations in terms of designs and patterns.

  • To apply complex textures, it is necessary to have proper skills and experience.

  • It's difficult to repair damages as recreating the same texture is challenging.

Here are the advantages and disadvantages of wallpapers.

Advantages Of Wallpapers

  • Wallpapers have an extensive range of designs and you can easily find something of your taste.

  • They can withstand wear and tear and last for many years without any fading or peeling.

  • Maintenance of wallpapers is very easy.

Disadvantages Of Wallpapers

  • Installing them could be challenging as there is a chance of bubble formation.

  • Removing the old wallpapers is quite a difficult task.

  • Bathrooms and kitchens are not ideal for them as the moisture in these careers can cause them to come off.

After all this, he told me that texture paint vs wallpaper cost is relatively similar and one should choose between them after considering all these factors.

Hi bud! I was looking to give my living room a makeover. The walls had started to peel off, and it made my mother really sick. So, dad and I decided to give her a sweet surprise. We got the living area texture painted while she was out on a work trip for three days. We had considered the question of

texture paint vs wallpaper

So, I guess I can help you in making a choice between the two options. I have mentioned various factors below. Kindly keep reading to understand which is better wallpaper or texture paint.

How is texture paint different from wallpaper

The difference between the two is pretty plain and simple. When it comes to wallpaper, it is a sheet with a design. The paper is supposed to be pasted on the wall by means of a highly adhesive glue.

On the other hand, texture is a form of design that an artist draws free-hand on the wall. At times, they may use other techniques too. For the job,, a special type of texture material is to be taken from the market.

Types of texture paint and wallpaper

Both texture paint and wallpaper are available in a wide variety in the market. The kinds of wallpaper and texture paints are as follows.

The area of application is a major factor when making a choice between the two. If you’re looking to renovate your bedroom, wallpapers work the best. But for a living room, textures are preferred. All in all, it comes down to your style and the look you wish to have. Consider all the above criteria while making your selection.

I hope this helps you to make an informed decision regarding texture paint vs wallpaper.
