When I was renovating my home, I had the same query as you. I asked my interior guy which paint is best for home. He said that it depends on a few factors like my budget, my preferences, paint coverage, washability, duration and more. I had no clue about any of these so I asked him to help me out. I can help you understand which paint is best for house by telling you about my experience. I hope you can learn from it.

Which painting is good for home?

There are a few options which were suggested to me. I will lay them out for you with proper reasons as to why they should be in consideration.

  • Oil-based Distemper Paint:

If you are tight on budget but need a good coat which is significantly durable then a normal distemper coat then I think oil-based distemper could be an option for you. But I was told that I will have to bear with the smell of the solvent used in it for a few days initially. Nonetheless, it costs around Rs. 25 per litre which is a sweet deal for a tight budget.

    • Emulsion Paints

: My interior guy convinced me that this is one of the best options to choose from when I was deciding which paint is best for home. He argued that since emulsion paint has acrylic or vinyl in them, it makes them durable. At the same time, since they are water-based, I didn’t have to worry about odours. I could wipe off stains from the wall easily. The price point is a little higher if compared to distemper. This one costs Rs. 160 per litre.

  • Enamel paint:

Enamel paint is known to withstand tough conditions so it is most suitable for kitchen and balcony area. It has a hard, opaque and glossy finish to it. I was told that it is a solvent based paint which again, causes some trouble on the smell part but now there are other varieties available too. I wasn’t that convinced but it did enter into my consideration. The price of enamel paint is around Rs. 70 per litre on average.

These are the three options I was given to analyse which paint is best for house. I personally went for emulsion paint.
