Who can open an NRE account ?
Individuals that have been approved by the Reserve Bank of India can open an NRE account for ease.
Other than that, there are some other criteria:
NRI :
Indian residents that have gone abroad for employment,business, vocation or any other circumstances can open an NRE account.
A person of Indian origin :
A person who was born in India can open an NRE account. PIO or Overseas Citizens of India are also applicable to this.
Crew Members :
Crew members that are of Indian origin that are based at foreign destinations, ports and residing abroad.
Students :
Students who have gone abroad to get a degree or continue their higher education can open a NRE account with their student ID.
NRE account can be opened by Indian nationals who have been posted abroad to work with foregn Government and International agencies i.e. UNO etc.
