The Gruha Jyothi scheme is a scheme launched by the Karnataka government in 2023. The scheme aims to provide free electricity to poor families in rural areas of the state.   • The Gruha Jyothi scheme in Karnataka aims to raise the living conditions of residents. When citizens use electricity up to 200 units per month, they are exempted from paying the electricity bill, saving about Rs.1,000 each month.
The Energy Department anticipates to get 5 to 10 lakh applications daily for the Gruha Jyothi scheme. Residents of Karnataka state can register for this scheme online on their laptops, phones and desktops through the Seva Sindhu portal. They can also visit the Bangalore One, Karnataka One or Grama One Centres to register for this scheme offline. This scheme Gruhajyothi will assist 2.14 crore families that consume less than 200 power units per month on average over the past year in Karnataka State. The government implemented this scheme from 1 August 2023, i.e. for electricity usage in July. The citizens will receive a zero electricity bill when the usage is below 200 units per month.

The Karnataka State Government announced the implementation of the "Gruha Jyothi scheme" to improve the welfare of residents by providing free electricity Karnataka state residing citizens. 

The primary goal of the Karnataka Gruha Jyothi scheme 2023, is to lower electricity costs by offering citizens of the state free electricity for up to 200 units.  According to the government, the existing Kuteera Jyothi, Amrutha Jyothi, and Bhagya Jyothi programmes would be merged with the Gruha Jyothi scheme.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme eligibility:

  • Only residents of Karnataka State are eligible to apply for this programme. 

  • Only connections to domestic, resident households are permitted.

  • Only one electric meter connection will qualify a homeowner for the scheme benefit.

  • tenants are eligible for the benefit even if the meter is in the name of the homeowner. 

  • Non-residents who live in Karnataka are also eligible to benefit from this scheme.

  • It is necessary to link the Aadhaar card to the account/consumer ID associated with the power bill.

  • Citizens will be eligible for the Gruha Jyothi plan regardless of any outstanding debt as long as they pay it off by September 30. They will lose their eligibility for the programme if the dues are not paid.

  • Fill out the application form's required fields, tick the declaration box, and click on the "Submit" button.
