Quite recently, my AC has been acting weird as it was consistently failing to reach and maintain the set temperature. I called an AC technician to check it out. After inspecting the AC, the technician told me that it happened because of AC sensor not working. After that, he told me a few reasons why AC sensors sometimes do not work properly.
What are the Reasons of Aircon Sensor not Working?
Here are the reasons that he told me because of which my AC sensor might not be working properly.
Age and Wear
He told me that when it comes to Air conditioner sensor problems, age can play an important role. Older ACs become prone to sensor issues due to wear and tear, and the sensitivity decreases over time.
Dust and Debris
The next thing the technician told me was that dirty sensors struggle to detect temperature accurately. This was the reason why my AC was failing to reach and maintain the set temperature. To prevent that, he suggested that I regularly clean and maintain the AC.
Damage or Corrosion
He also told me that Sensor problems in AC can arise due to physical damage or corrosion. The damage can happen due to accidental impact or exposure to moisture or chemicals. To detect these issues early, he suggested me to get the AC inspected by professionals.
And that’s what he told me about my AC sensor not working. I hope this helps.

Hello, I am here to help you find reasons why your AC sensor not working. I went through the same problem about five months ago. I found out there could be multiple reasons behind the non-functional sensor of AC. Your sensor might not be working because of being displaced from its position, another reason could be the faulty thermostat. But, Indian households rarely have a thermostat, so it brings us down to basically the sensor being out of place. Below, I am sharing the reason for the details, along with methods through which you can try to fix your AC sensor.
Why is my AC Temperature Sensor Not Working?
The reason why your AC sensor is not working may be because the sensor has been displaced from its original position. When this happens, the air conditioner starts to either cycle constantly or behave erratically. The sensor should ideally be close to the coil, but shouldn’t be touching it.
How to Repair your AC Sensor?
Turn off your AC and the power at the main electrical panel of your AC.
Give it a try to access the evaporator coil inside. The sensor should be near the coil. If you see that the sensor is bent, carefully place it back in its position. After this, turn the breaker back on at the main panel and turn on the system.
I would recommend you do not do this on your own, as it can be risky. It is better to call up an AC technician.
This is all about the AC sensor problem. I hope this helps.
