Why AC Sensor Not Working?

Quite recently, my AC has been acting weird as it was consistently failing to reach and maintain the set temperature. I called an AC technician to check it out. After inspecting the AC, the technician told me that it happened because of AC sensor not working. After that, he told me a few reasons why AC sensors sometimes do not work properly.

The next thing the technician told me was that dirty sensors struggle to detect temperature accurately. This was the reason why my AC was failing to reach and maintain the set temperature. To prevent that, he suggested that I regularly clean and maintain the AC. 

Damage or Corrosion

He also told me that Sensor problems in AC can arise due to physical damage or corrosion. The damage can happen due to accidental impact or exposure to moisture or chemicals. To detect these issues early, he suggested me to get the AC inspected by professionals.

Why is my AC Temperature Sensor Not Working?

The reason why your AC sensor is not working may be because the sensor has been displaced from its original position. When this happens, the air conditioner starts to either cycle constantly or behave erratically. The sensor should ideally be close to the coil, but shouldn’t be touching it. 

How to Repair your AC Sensor?

1. Turn off your AC and the power at the main electrical panel of your AC.

2. Give it a try to access the evaporator coil inside. The sensor should be near the coil. If you see that the sensor is bent, carefully place it back in its position. After this, turn the breaker back on at the main panel and turn on the system.

I would recommend you do not do this on your own, as it can be risky. It is better to call up an AC technician.
