The light bulb in my study room keeps turning off and I couldn’t figure out the reason behind this. I called an electrician and asked him why do my lights keep tripping in the study room. He said that there are three main reasons why this could happen and those are overloading, short circuits, and ground fault surges. He said he would come by to check the issue and fix it.

Why Do My House Lights Keep Tripping?

While inspecting the issue, he said that these three are equally common, and explained each factors to me,

Overloading

He stated that overloading is the most common issue, and this generally happens when a lot of electrical demand is put on a single circuit. This extra demand causes the circuit to overheat and puts all the electrical appliances connected to that at risk.

Short Circuits

According to him, short circuits are more dangerous than overloading. This happens when a faulty live wire comes in contact with a neutral wire or loose connection. When this happens, too much current flows through a circuit suddenly which overheats the circuit.

Ground Fault Surges

This is not that common but happens when a live wire touches a bare copper ground wire or a metal outlet box. This causes excess flow of electricity and trips the switch.

After the inspection, he said that the cause of my issue was a short circuit. After that, he proceeded to fix it. I hope this helps.
