Hi! Recently, my refrigerator started tripping on the circuit breaker. I was so frustrated and worried about the potential damage it can do to my refrigerator. So I had to fix it, but for that I needed to know, why does my fridge breaker keep tripping? I did some research on it, and I found out there are several common reasons for this issue, some of which I will list below.

Why Does My Fridge Keep Tripping The Breaker?

I found overloading the circuit might have played a role, since that is the most common cause of electrical appliance tripping. The same circuit that my refrigerator was connected to also powered other home appliances, such as the dishwasher and microwave.

The breaker could frequently trip because of this exceeding the circuit's capacity. I found this can be fixed by unplugging a few less necessary electronics and setting up a different circuit just for the refrigerator.

  • I also found out about old wires or insulation as an issue. I looked for any signs of wear or damage on the socket and power wire. Short circuits caused by deteriorated or outdated wiring would cause the breaker to trip as a precaution. In my case, I adjusted the circuit outlet to guarantee a secure connection after finding out that it was a little loose.

  • Your wiring or insulation may be the issue if your house is older. I found out that over time, any electrical system's materials are likely to deteriorate. The insulation offered by older homes begins to crumble and flake, exposing the wires. So you should look into that as well and probably seek advice from a professional electrician.

I suggest you better hire an electrician to prevent yourself from electric shock. I hope you understand why does fridge keep tripping breaker.
