Hello Payal, in our previous rented house, we faced a problem where our bedroom AC was throwing ice. So, I called up a repair person at the time to understand why does AC throw ice
I can share the reason behind this cause to help you understand the root of this problem.
Which is Ice Coming from AC?
We found that our AC had a clogged condensation drain. The technician told us at the time that if the drain fails to function, water starts leaking from the AC and the coils ultimately freeze if the issue isn’t fixed.
Another reason could be the outside temperature. ACs are functioned to work and cool the home at a lower temperature than what it is outside. But, if the temperature outside has dropped below the AC level and the appliance is running at full capacity, the evaporator coil will start freezing.
So, these are the reasons behind ice coming out of AC. This is all from my end. I hope you find this helpful.

Hi. If you’re wondering why is ice coming out of my AC, I can help. I went through the same situation a few weeks ago when my Samsung AC started to throw ice. After calling a technician, I got to know that there could be multiple reasons behind this. Some of these include the slow speed of airflow, dirty blades of the blower fan malfunctioning of the blower fan, etc. Below, I am describing all the reasons so you can understand them better.
Why is my AC Throwing Ice?
Here are some potential reasons why your AC is throwing ice.
The first reason could be slow airflow or that the airflow has stopped across the cooling coil. This could happen due to the dirty air filter, which has accumulated a lot of debris over time. Another reason could be disconnected ductwork or the presence of wrong-sized ductwork.
The malfunctioning in the blower fan of the AC could be the problem. If the air handler blower unit isn’t moving the needed amount of air as it should, then the evaporator coil won’t receive the sufficient amount. This then leads to frost building up on your AC’s cooling coil.
Last but not least, if the AC refrigerant has undergone a leak, you’ll notice that the ice has started to appear around the AC coil. As this leak continues, the cooling will disappear slowly, and the coil won’t get frosted or iced over. Once this happens, you’d have to fix the leak.
This is all I have to share with you. I hope this helps you to know the reason why is there ice in my AC. I would recommend you to get your air conditioner checked and serviced for better functioning.
