Electrical issues: A faulty capacitor can also create clicking noises in the AC. When you turn on the AC, the thermostat usually sends signals to the capacitor to get things started. The problem will come when the thermostat cannot communicate with the capacitor, which could be because of a faulty wire.
Mechanical problems: I remember the technician mentioned about mechanical issues which usually include faulty piston, valve, and belt. These problems should not be ignored and fixed right away from a professional.
Fan unit: If your fan blade is even slightly bent, it could cause clicking noises. So, the first thing you should check is your fan unit. I learned this usually happens because of poor maintenance.
