Why is My Air Conditioner Running Fan Not Spinning?

Recently, I have experienced that even though the system is operating, an outside AC unit fan not working. I hired an HVAC Technician to fix it and asked him why this was happening as well. He told me that the fan motor was burnt out, which was why it wasn't operating.

My AC technician told me that there could be the following circumstances due to which AC unit fan not spinning:

• Bad Or Burnt Out Fan Motor

According to him, if the fan motor has been damaged or burned out, the fan could fail to receive the power it needs to run.

• Broken Fan Blades

Broken fan blades will cause the fan to operate less effectively. Thus, it might compensate for it by running nonstop.

• Faulty Capacitor

The AC fan depends on the capacitor for power, therefore if it breaks down, the fan won't operate either.

• Clogged Air Filter

The air filter may get covered in dust, grime, and other material over time. It may prevent air from passing through the unit, allowing ice to accumulate and straining the fan to the point of failure.

• Broken Belt

Older types of AC condensers are belt-driven. These may break or come off as they become older.

To get the fan operating again, you might need to hire a qualified AC specialist to inspect and fix it. Moreover, my technician also said that a fan on AC unit not spinning can also result from problems such as issues in the compressor contactor, or a refrigerant leak.

Inspect for broken or loosened connections. Wires that are disconnected or corroded may stop the motor's electricity supply.

• Blocked Fan Blade: 

Debris or other items can occasionally prevent the fan blade from moving. Remove any obstacles if that's the case.

• Thermostat Settings: 

Check to see if the temperature and cooling mode on your thermostat are acceptable.
