Hello, I noticed that my refrigerator was not cooling at all when I detected a strange smell coming from it recently. I asked the electrician I hired why refrigerator not cooling. He said it was due to unclean condenser coils. He also informed me of other reasons why a refrigerator won't cool, such as poor installation, filthy gasket seals, refrigerant line leaks, and how to fix them.

Why Refrigerator Does Not Cool?

My electrician informed me of the following reasons:

  • Installation placement

The refrigerator's ability to cool down may be impacted if it is kept in a warm environment, like an outside space or a garage or even near an oven. Installing your refrigerator where there is adequate space for air to flow through the appliance's back and sides will help you fix it.

  • Dirty gasket seal

Your refrigerator's door gasket seals aid in keeping cold air inside. If they are damaged, or dusty, or not sealed correctly, it allows chilly air to escape from your fridge. To fix it, examine the gasket seals on your doors for any dirt, crumbs, or other debris, and then use warm, soapy water to clean them.

  • Dirty condenser coils

A common cause is an accumulation of dust and debris on the condenser coils. It can obstruct airflow and limit the refrigerator's ability to cool down effectively. This is the reason why is my refrigerator not getting cold. The professional easily fixed this by using a vacuum or brush and cleaning the condenser coils.

  • Refrigerant line leaks

A leak in the refrigerant line may cause a fridge to lose its ability to cool down and struggle to keep its temperature down. To fix it, check the below link:

Why is my refrigerator not cooling?

1) Blocked Vents

A network of internal and external vents controls the temperature of the air inside your refrigerator. It is crucial that these vents be open in order to maintain a constant temperature. Debris like dirt or spilt food may partially block these vents. It's crucial to keep vents as clear as possible because every blocked vent might affect how hot something inside is.

2) Damaged condenser coils

The heat from inside the refrigerator is released through the condenser coil. The refrigerator will have to put more effort to remove the heat if the coils are unclean. If your kitchen has a lot of dust or pet hair, you must clean the condenser coil more frequently than once a year. Efficiency may be impacted by a dirty coil, but you may quickly clean it with a vacuum or long brush. Cleaning it should enable it to efficiently resume internal heat release. This is one of the main reason for fridge not cooling.

3) Failure of the evaporator fan motor

Your refrigerator will have one or more evaporator fan motors, according to its model. If your appliance has just one fan, it will be in the freezer section. The cold air from the evaporator coils is spread throughout the area by the evaporator fan motor. You can have a cold freezer but not cool in the refrigerator compartment if the fan motor isn't working.

4) Broken control boards

The main control board and the temperature control board are the two circuit boards that are used in a modern refrigerator. Temperature problems could be caused by damage to either of these control boards. If you detect a control board failure, we advise getting in touch with a service technician because these problems are difficult for a beginner to detect or fix.
