Hi,
It is important to change your name in the property tax bill when you purchase a new property. You won't be able to pay taxes if you fail to change your name in the property tax receipt. You can also get penalized if you delay changing your name. I will share with you an easy process on how to change the name in tax receipt. I live in Bangalore and these are the steps I followed to change names in property tax.
Step 1:
You need to apply for a Khata transfer.
Step 2:
After receiving a message from BBMP that your Khata application has been approved, you can pay the Khata transfer fee. I have paid the amount in Bangalore one centre.
Step 3:
After the payment, you can download the softcopy of the Khata Certificate from the Sakala website.
Click here to visit the Sakala website
.
Step 4:
You receive a call from the BBMP office to acquire the hard copy of your Khata certificate after a few days. You can get it by visiting the BBMP office.
Step 5:
You need to write a letter to the Asst. Revenue Officer at the BBMP office requesting him/her to change the name in the property tax.
Don't forget to attach important documents such as a photocopy of the Khata Certificate, Khata extract, and the last paid tax receipt.
Step 6:
After a few days, you can check the BBMP website to see that your name has been updated.
Click here to visit the BBMP website.
I hope this was helpful.
